Most people never pay.

Hoard Free is not a trial and does not expire. Whether it is enough comes down to one number: how much your saves weigh, all your games together.

Saves of about 50 MB

Where most games land. Thirty of them fit, with their history.

Free, comfortably

Saves around 500 MB

Three or four games like that and the free tier is full.

Free, just about

Saves over 1 GB

One game like that is most of your quota. Two will not fit.

Pro

Versions are cheap, not free: only the first copy of a save is stored whole, and every one after it keeps just what changed, so a long history adds up slowly. The number that decides your tier is how many games you sync and how big each one is.

Pay for Pro once and the device limit is lifted from your account for good. Go back to Free later and your storage returns to 2 GB, but every machine you paired stays paired.

Hoard Cloud exists so the free tier can exist. Every free account costs real money in storage and traffic, and today that money is mine: the project has never made a profit and runs at a loss. Nothing in Free is crippled to push you upwards. Pro is simply bigger, it lifts the device limit from your account for good, and the people who take it are the reason Free stays open.
